Simple Tips Extend Your Forklift Battery Life
Batteries are an investment that can last for years if properly cared for. Get the most out your battery by following these simple guidelines to preserve and extend its life.
- Water properly. Regularly check your battery and add clean water (never acid) if needed to replenish the electrolyte levels. Make sure to add water only after a full charging cycle.
- Protect your battery. Always keep fire and metal away from the battery top, keep the battery top clean and dry, and screw vent caps tightly.
- Keep cool. If the battery temperature ever reaches 115°, make sure it’s allowed to cool before charging or using. While charging, keep your battery cover open and well ventilated, and of course, only use chargers with the correct current and voltage.
- Follow manufacturer instructions. For the life of your battery, and for your own safety, never operate your battery outside of its specifications.
